Reflection Week 9 – Wednesday Lecture

I think the discussion spoke for itself today. The big question I have is that if we as the church understand and can, in a way, deconstruct culture, production, texts, etc., how do we respond to it. Do we, to reach an audience, copy this idea by responding to everyday life? Do we understand the audience to reach them? Or do we deconstruct their world and help them understand the insidious interplay of culture and marketing. Should the church mobilize on a political or marketing level? I think about “not of this world,” a “cool” but Christian clothing company that sort of straddles the line. But should there even be a line? The church really has focused on being countercultural, but should we instead have our foot in the door?
